How To Find Owner Of Email?

0

I am wondering if you have a way of finding the owner of an email address. We are involved in litigation and have been emailed by a party known to the plaintiff. We wish to locate that party but the only information we have about him or her is the email address.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yes, you can definitely find the owner of an email, especially if litigation is involved and the client is willing to expend funds to issue subpoenas.   Really three major ways of finding the owner of that email.

1) Find if there is an internet history of use with that email which points to owner.  This typically requires an older email to be successful.

2)  Capture some IP information from the email and then see if that matches to known suspects; and/or

3)  Subpoena the records for the email.  Typically, the must useful thing you get back is the IP address used by the email owner.  From there, you can subpoena the records of the internet service provider to then ID the person.
