Find Email Owner & Disconnected Phone Owner?

I am not a lawyer or business interest but a private person doing a favor for a family member who does not have a computer. I have an email address associated with a disconnected phone number. This address is no longer active as of a few months ago. Would you be able to trace how this address was paid for and in whose name the method of payment is registered? Also, is there a way to legally retrieve the content of the emails relative to this address? Please advise if either of these things can be done and what would be the cost.

On your request, probably not as posed. There is all kinds of privacy issues involved and even with court ordered subpoenas, could not get a lot of the info you described.
Typically, the best way to interact with an investigator or attorney group on this is tell them the overall problem you are trying to solve. Frequently, we have many other solutions to issues that clients don't even know to ask for. What I typically as for is give me a readers digest version of what has happened, and ultimately what do you want done; example,
Have a cyber stalker that was attacking with emails, phone, etc. (couple sentences of description). What we would ultimately like to do is get this person (arrested, stopped, hit with lawsuit), etc.
