Internet Slander Lawsuits
The internet today is a treacherous place and internet defamation lawsuits are on the rise.
For example, consider the following case:
“A jury in Union County, Georgia recently returned a $404,000 verdict against a woman who posted false and malicious allegations on Topix.com against a man she barely knew. The woman, Sybil Denise Ballew, posted that Gene Cooley was a drug addict, criminal and pedophile among other things.
The libelous postings on Topix.com, a community website, came shortly after Cooley’s fiancé was murdered by her ex-husband. The consequences of Ballew’s actions were so severe that Cooley lost his job and had to leave town in search of work. Ballew’s comments even caused Cooley’s fiancé’s family to treat him with suspicion in regards to his fiancé’s death.”

Furthermore, people and companies are getting tired of being defamed on the internet. As another good example, consider:
Local Internet defamation case involving SPCA could set legal precedent
“A $4.5 million defamation lawsuit brought by the SPCA of Upstate New York against a dog owners’ group that was critical of the shelter could help determine the law when it comes to how defamation over the Internet is litigated.
The Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court, has agreed to hear the SPCA’s appeal of the dismissal of a lawsuit it filed against the American Working Collies Association and its leader over Internet criticism of the local shelter.
The SPCA sued the Ohio-based collie group and its Vermont-based president, Jean Levitt, last year over postings on the organization’s website attributed to Levitt that were critical of the care the SPCA provided to collies that were rescued during an animal abuse case.
The Appellate Division of state Supreme Court dismissed the lawsuit in June, finding that the state’s courts did not have jurisdiction over Levitt or the AWCA because they were outside the state.”

The landscape is changing daily on internet slander lawsuits.
What NETSLANDER recommends is that you speak with someone WHO DOES A LOT of internet business. Honestly, most lawyers have no idea how internet litigation works and we see so many people being wrongly advised.
In our opinion, Cyber Investigation Services, LLC is a great place to start since they do a LOT of volume of this kind of work and they understand all the litigation AND non-litigation techniques that work and why.
