According to the Google webmaster, the websites that are retrieved after Google search are not necessarily controlled by Google can be administered by other webmasters. Most people are not aware that whichever, the service provider, to remove a page from Google search results does not mean that the page is deleted from the web. Consequently, the webpage can still be accessed from another search engine.

It is only the website webmaster that has authority to delete or remove a defamatory material and any objectionable information, including removing an entire webpage. Ultimately, a defamation victim of Internet attacks is advised to contact the webmaster and also appropriate legal authorities to get any content removed from the Internet, including a webpage. In this respect, Google has authority to remove a page from Google search that is hosted by the service provider only.

Following technological innovation new tools are invented and the web has become the main communication platform. Almost every day new social-networking websites such as blogs are opened where people can post all the information they want, including photos. These informative websites, social-networking platforms and other types of sites, it is believed, safeguard freedom of speech, flow of information, communication and other civic rights.

Abuse of these freedoms has given rise to various offenses such as defamation, harassment and bullying that have in some serious instances. For example, Internet bullying is now a uprising social problem among adolescents that has even resulted in death among young people. These cyber attacks are not subject to close monitoring and there are  cases of court litigations that have been filed against many service providers and cyber criminals. A person who is a victim of fraudulent cyber actions such as internet defamation, block spot attacks, damaged online reputation and other forms of internet attacks has the possibility to request Google to remove the content in question.

In keeping with Google policy, any person who believes that a material hosted by a ‘Google property’ needs to be removed, he/she needs to fill in a legal content removal form to request the webmaster to remove the content under the applicable law. However, the Google policy, is explicit that to remove a page from Google search and any ‘perishable shelf file’, they will do so only if he is served with a court order. Therefore, many victims of internet attacks have been forced to file lawsuits to get court orders to remove the defamatory material including images.

Although Google allows its users access to make a request to remove a page from Google search it’s not a very easy thing to do. They specify that if a person wants a content to be removed from Google search results, they cannot remove materials from other sites on the web. This is true since the webmaster does not own the other website and Google does not have the ability to remove the said content.

Be aware that if you want to remove a page from Google search it will basically be just a cosmetic fix since the page is still available on the web. The only solution for victims is to take legal actions if they want to remove page from the web which is not only time-consuming but costly as well.
